Isotonic solution

 Isotonic Solution:

An isotonic solution is a solution that has the same osmotic pressure as another solution, typically compared to a cell's internal environment or blood plasma.

Key characteristics:

1. Equal osmotic pressure: Same concentration of solutes as the comparison solution.

2. No net movement: No net movement of water molecules into or out of cells.

3. Cell shape maintained: Cells maintain their shape and structure.

Examples:

1. Normal saline: 0.9% sodium chloride solution, isotonic to human blood.

2. IV fluids: Some intravenous fluids are designed to be isotonic to prevent cell damage.
