Different between Osmosis and diffusion
Osmosis vs Diffusion:
Osmosis:
1. Movement of solvent molecules (water) through a semipermeable membrane.
2. From an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
3. Equalizes solute concentrations on both sides.
Diffusion:
1. Movement of particles (solutes or solvents) from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
2. Occurs in any medium (gas, liquid, or solid).
3. Leads to uniform distribution of particles.
Key differences:
1. Semipermeable membrane: Osmosis requires it, diffusion doesn't.
2. Solvent vs solute: Osmosis involves solvent molecules, diffusion involves any particles.
3. Direction: Both move from high to low concentration, but osmosis is specific to solvent flow.
