Que 1.  Which of the following are matter?
             Chair, air, love, smell, hate, almonds, thought, cold, cold-drink, smell of perfume
Ans 1.   Chair, air, almonds, and Lemon water.

QUE 2. Give reasons for the following observation:
The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several meters away, but to get the smell from cold food you have to go close
.
Ans 2. Hot food smell reaches far because:

          1. Heat makes particles move fast
          2. Particles spread quickly in air

Cold food smell doesn't reach far because particles move slowly.

Heat helps smell spread faster! 

Que 3. A diver is able to cut through water in a swimming pool. Which property of matter                      does this observation show?  

Ans 3. This observation shows that particles of matter have space between them.

            The diver can cut through water because water molecules are not tightly packed, allowing the                  diver to push them apart and move through.

           This demonstrates the property of matter that particles have intermolecular spaces, enabling                     objects to move through or displace them!


QUE 4.  What are the characteristics of the particles of matter?

Ans 4.   The characteristics of particles of matter are:

   1. Particles have space between them: They are not tightly packed.
   2. Particles are in constant motion: They vibrate or move.

   3. Particles attract each other: Intermolecular forces hold them together.
   4. Particles have kinetic energy: They move due to thermal energy.
